For a change, try different breads, such as Italian bread, hamburger buns, or hot dog buns. Try different cheeses, such as Monterey Jack, Colby Jack, or cheddar. Your children can help spread butter/margarine on the toast, and sprinkle the cheese, garlic powder, and pepper.
8 slices of whole wheat bread
4 tablespoons butter, softened or margarine spread
½ teaspoon garlic powder
? teaspoon black ground pepper
1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
4 tablespoons parmesan cheese, grated
Preheat oven to broiler on the lowest setting and position the oven rack 8-10 inches from the heating element. Place slices of bread on a baking sheet. Broil for 2-3 minutes or until lightly brown. Turn slices over and spread untoasted side with butter. Sprinkle lightly with garlic powder and pepper. Then sprinkle with both kinds of cheese. Return to oven and broil another 2 minutes, until cheese is bubbly and brown. Cool for 5 minutes and serve.
