Ingredients

  •  1 large apple, any variety, thinly sliced
  •  8 slices of whole wheat bread
  •  8 slices of cheese, any variety
  •  2 tablespoons butter, divided

Preparation

1 Build sandwiches by placing four slices of bread on a cutting board or plate. Top each piece of bread with one slice of cheese. Add an even layer of sliced apples to each sandwich, then top with a second piece of cheese and remaining bread.

2 In a griddle or large skillet, melt ½ tablespoon of butter over medium heat.

3 Add two sandwiches to the skillet, pressing down slightly with a spatula. Cook for 4-6 minutes until the cheese begins to melt and the bottoms of the sandwiches become golden brown.

4 Add ½ tablespoon of butter to the skillet. Once melted, carefully flip the sandwiches using a large spatula.

5 Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until bread is golden brown and cheese is melted. Remove from the stove and cool slightly before serving.

6 Repeat steps 2-6 for the remaining sandwiches.
